Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me. :la:
Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang. :D
The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

RIP Arthur C. Clarke

Well, most of you must be knowing this already. The world renowned Sci-Fi author and visionary, Sir Arthur C. Clarke passed away at a private hospital here in my hometown today morning at the very old age of 90. Not just a few months ago he celebrated his 90th birthday. He'll be sadly missed especially since I grew up experiencing his visions through books, television, and the planetorium he helped setup here.

I might attend his funeral if they open it to the public (which am sure they will)

I'm currently programming a CMS for my own website which I plan to launch in 7 months and 1 day (because I'll be 18 on October 7th which means that I can then buy a domain). However, I have only just started learning PHP so I don't think I'm ready to be involved in any such projects. However, I might be able to help you in the future (say 12 months), so if you need programming help after that time, feel free to contact me - I would be more than glad to help you then :D
